The
Engine Room
The
forward portion of the Odysseys engine room is centered around
its twin Detroit Diesel 8V71 engines with Allison transmissions.
Outboard of each main engine are the generators. The port genset
produces 80kva and the starboard produces 100kva of electrical
power for the vessel. The main voltage is 240 volts but through
transformers and converters, 120 volts is also available. Aft of
the starboard genset is the freshwater pressure set. This provides
the freshwater pressure to all the sinks and showers throughout
the boat. It draws the water from any of the six freshwater storage
tanks onboard. Forward of the starboard genset is the hot water
heater. Aft of the port genset is the saltwater pressure set. This
provides pressure for the toilets. Outboard of the saltwater pressure
set is the reverse osmosis system (watermaker). This takes saltwater
and forces it at high pressure through a membrane which separates
out the brine portion and leaves high quality fresh water which
gets stored for the vessels use. The stern portion of the engine
room consists of two chilled water air conditioning systems, bilge
and fire pumps, the fuel transfer system and the rudder system.
